I took this picture last year at a winery in Florida. They use old wine bottles to distill water by using the heat of the sun. I wish I'd taken better notes so I knew how this actually works, but ran across it tonight and wanted to share.
I'd imagine the bottles are filled and sealed around the pipe going up through the middle. It looks like the pipe is very close to the cone of the bottle, this would make it easier to collect the drips of condensed vapor.
So the sun would heat the water, turn it to vapor, that vapor would rise and condense on the punt of the bottle, and drip into the pipe where it is collected by the hoses from the bottom.
